Question
As salaamualaikum shaikh. Hw r u? I have two different questions : 1) how many units of sunnah prayer is ordained after jummuah prayer based on sahih hadeeth. 2) when we join a congregational prayer and the imam is in rukuh, do we need to repeat that rakaah or not required. Jazakallah khairan wa kaseera.
Answer
Wa'alaykumsalaam Wa RAhmatullah Wa Barakaatouh

If you are praying the sunnah after Jummu'ah in the Masjid, then pray 4 raka'ah - 2 units by 2 units
If you are praying the sunnah after Jummu'ah in the house, the pray only 2 raka'ah.

Ibn al-Qayyim said in al-Zaad (1/440):

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had prayed Jumuah, he would enter his house and pray two Rakahs of Sunnah, and he commanded those who had prayed it to pray four rakahs afterwards. Our shaykh, Abul-Abbaas Ibn Taymiyah said: if he prayed in the mosque, he would pray four, and if he prayed at home, he would pray two. I say: this is what is indicated by many ahaadeeth. Abu Dawood reported in his Sunan (1130) from Ibn Umar that when he prayed in the mosque, he prayed four and when he prayed at home, he prayed two.

If you join the Imam while he is in ruku', then you have obtain the raka'ah which means you should not repeat this raka'ah.

Once the Imam stands from the ruku', then the first raka'ah is over.
